The Sanctity of Life

TEXT: Psalms 139:13-16

INTRODUCTION:

On December 26th, 2004, a tsunami caused by an earthquake in the Indian Ocean killed approximately 170,000 people.  The world mourned as the death toll kept rising.  Many innocent people lost their lives.

On September 11, 2001 almost 4,000 people were killed. They were future leaders of this nation, doctors who could have saved many, scientist who may have found a cure for cancer, evangelist who may have lead thousands to the Lord and they were loved. Yes on September 11, 2001, evil doers killed almost 4000 people.
But the sad truth is that many people don’t realize that on September 12, 2001 another 4000 people died … and again on September 13 and 14 and 15. Every day over 4000 people are killed. These are unborn babies- 4000 each day, 28,000 each week, 112,000 each month and 1,460,000 each year.
Consider how cheap human life is in our society today as a result of humanistic evolutionary teaching:

* The Endangered Species Act
3 amphibians, 56 birds, 7 clams, 2 crustaceans, 29 fish, 8 mammals, 21 reptiles, 2 snails and 42 plants - and their unborn offspring – are considered untouchable under penalty of the law. But not an unborn human baby.
* Goodyear Tire spent $35,000 to surgically attach fins on a pregnant loggerhead sea turtle which had suffered a shark attack. A spokesman for the company commented, "We’re doing this for motherhood."
* A
Florida man was arrested for stealing turtle eggs from the beach.  He defended himself by saying that the eggs were not yet "life."  His defense was no good as he was convicted and fined. To the law, a turtle egg is alive, but not an unborn baby!
* Here are some of the outrageous fines levied by our courts:

- $4,000 for killing cats.
- $1,360 and 60 days in jail for torturing and killing rabbits.
- $10,000 for killing a tree!

But no fines for killing a baby - even a partially born youngster.

I.                The Unborn is a living soul.

Exodus 21:22  If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Exodus 21:23  And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

Exodus 21:24  Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

Exodus 21:25  Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Luke 1:41  And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

Psalm 51:5  Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Jeremiah 20:17  Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.

II.            The Unborn Is Recognized By God As Life.

Job 10:8  Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.

Job 10:9  Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?

Job 10:10  Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?

Job 10:11  Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.

Psalm 139:13  For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Psalm 139:14  I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Psalm 139:15  My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Psalm 139:16  Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

III.         Human Life Is Sacred.

Exodus 20:13  Thou shalt not kill.

Matthew 5:21  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

Romans 13:9  For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

CONCLUSION:

What can God’s people do about the abortion epidemic?
1. REPENT: if you have had an Abortion or counseled some one to have an Abortion. We need to Repent if we have done nothing to help the unborn. We must not gloss it over or rationalize it, the Bible says, "if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive our sins.
2. PRAY: for troubled women, our country/our churches/ ourselves to wake up.

3. TESTIFY of the truths you have heard this morning from the Word of God.
3. GET INVOLVED:

a. VOTE PRO-LIFE; if you haven’t in the past start now. Sure their are other important issues but in order of priority economics or any other issue for that matter, does not rank any where near the sanctity of human life.
b. write /call politicians, they listen to calls.
c. Volunteer at a Crisis Pregnancy center, there are many ways to serve there.  Take home a baby bottle and fill it up with money to support this organization that is on the front lines in the fight against abortion.
d. If your Doctor performs abortions get another Doctor.
